As a specialist, I understand the unique challenges and experiences that individuals within the transgender community face. My practice is committed to providing a safe and affirming space for trans clients seeking support on their journey. One important aspect of this support is my commitment to offer letters of support for gender-affirming medical care, a crucial step in pursuing certain medical procedures. I consider it my duty to facilitate, however I can, access to the care that aligns with your authentic self.
I am well-versed in the guidelines and criteria necessary to provide gender affirming letters. My evaluations are centered on empathy, understanding, and collaboration, ensuring that we work together to explore and validate your unique experiences. Whether you are seeking support for gender dysphoria, navigating the complexities of your identity, or preparing for gender-affirming surgeries, I am here to guide you through the process with compassion and expertise.
In the past, trans people have faced many barriers to receiving the gender-affirming medical care they need, such as through lengthy periods of required therapy before letters of support will be considered. While plenty of barriers still exist, and there is certainly more progress to be made, there has also been rapidly growing acceptance of the “informed consent” model of gender-affirming care. This means that the client — not the therapist, doctor, parents, or anyone else — is considered the expert on their own experience and identity.
In that spirit, I do not require commitments to ongoing psychotherapy to receive a letter in support of gender-affirming medical care. While therapy can provide enormous support while navigating these processes, it is also up to the client to determine whether they need that support, and whether it is the right time for therapy.
It is my priority to create an alliance where you feel heard, respected, and supported in your journey towards gender affirmation. Together, we can navigate the emotional and practical aspects of your experience, fostering a space where your gender identity is honored and validated as an integral part of your overall wellbeing.
