Presenting a safe, affirming, and inclusive space for individuals identifying as transgender through the MIDTOWN ATLANTA TRANS SUPPORT group.
Although everyone’s journey looks different, sharing our stories and hearing others’ experiences can make it better for everyone. Whether you’re just beginning to understand what transition means to you or are pursuing a goal of gender-affirming surgery and are looking for professional resources and support, we offer a safe place to process and explore your thoughts and feelings. Indeed, transition means something different to all of us, so wherever you are in your journey, it can be incredibly valuable and life-affirming to connect with peers as you navigate your way forward.
To encourage interaction and support, this group will be limited to no more than eight individuals self-identifying as transgender primarily around the ages of 28 and 39. (We do offer some flexibility regarding age so if you are interested in joining the group, please connect with us.)
The group will meet Tuesdays from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, beginning February 18, 2020 through March 24, 2020. The total cost for this six-week program is only $150.
To strengthen privacy and safety, we require a brief individual consultation prior to the first group meeting. After registering, prospective group members will be contacted to schedule the initial consultation. The cost of the consultation is $45 (fee may be waived if referred by a psychotherapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist).
Please note: your participation in group meetings may be covered by health insurance or employee benefit plans. Please check with your individual coverage. While we do not file insurance claims, we can provide the necessary documentation to submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement if that is available.
The group is facilitated by Powell Burke, who is a clinical social worker and psychotherapist experienced with trans clients and knowledgeable about the unique challenges faced by members of the community.
